The market volatility over rising bond yields is not concerning to the Fed. Multiple officials who have spoken recently downplayed the impact of October's volatility on the broader economy and their monetary policy intentions. The minutes of the recent Federal Reserve meeting are scheduled to be release on Wednesday. Today’s Economic Reports: At 8:30 am ET Retail Sales figures and the Empire State Mfg survey will be released. At 10:00 am ET Business inventories report is to be released.

The rapid rise in Treasury yields created yesterday’s market sell off. In a speech yesterday, Dallas Fed President Robert Kaplan said he still favors the central bank raising short-term interest rates three more times before deciding whether more increases will be necessary to keep the economy on an even keel. President Donald Trump stated “I think the Fed has gone crazy,” in response to a question about the market sell off. Economic Reports: At 8:30 am ET watch for reports on Jobless Claims and the September Consumer Price Index figures.

The IMF lowered its forecasts for global economic growth this year and next, citing rising trade protectionism and instability in emerging markets. Fed Speak; Chicago Federal Reserve Bank President Charles Evans to speak in Chicago at 10:00 am ET. Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia President Harker to speak at 1:00 pm ET.New York Federal Reserve Bank President John Williams to give speech on recent developments in U.S. monetary policy in Bali, Indonesia at 9:15 pm ET. There are no economic reports due out today due to the Columbus day holiday.

In a Q & A session yesterday, Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell said the U.S. central bank wants to get rates up to a "neutral" level that neither boosts nor restrains growth. The level of short-term rates is still far away from neutral. In Fed Speak; Federal Reserve Vice Chairman for Supervision Randal Quarles to give a speech today in St. Louis MO at 8:15am ET. Economic Reports: Jobless Claims are due out at 8:30 am ET. Factory Orders are due out at 10:00 am ET.
